REFERENCES TO EUGEN BOISSEVAIN
1999. Eugen Boissevain is cited in Burleigh,N. A Very Private Woman (p. 40), which is about Mary Pinchot Meyer, daughter of Amos Pinchot, funder of Max Eastman's radical-left journal The Masses and Amos's second wife Ruth Pickering Pinchot. Mary Meyer was a beautiful socialite, graduate of Vassar, whom JFK reportedly wanted to marry while in the White House. She took LSD with Timothy Leary at Harvard in 1962 and reportedly smoked marijuana with JFK in the White House. Mary was married to and divorced from a CIA agent, Cord Meyer. She was killed professionally walking on the towpath in Washington the year after JFK's assassination. (Mentioned on the same page as Eugen Boissevain are Max and his sister Crystal Eastman. Eugen met both Eastmans through his first wife Inez Milholland and continued his friendship with them after Inez's death. Also mentioned is Edna St. Vincent Millay, Eugen's second wife, who grew up in Maine.)
